The Part-timer, Issue II
The Part-Timer
The Part-Timer is your relevant and concise source of information for part-time MBA students. This issue was sent out on February 2, 2010.
The Part-Timer
After talking to part-time students for the past year in hopes of improving their MBA experience, I learned a few things along the way.
First, the obvious: Part-time students are incredibly busy. They work full-time jobs, have unforgiving obligations at school, have busy personal/family/social obligations, and at the end of the day, have no time for attending workshops, reading e-mails, or participate in any form of networking unless it truly adds value to their busy lives.
Second, part-time students have different career needs from full-time MBA students. They already have careers and are having a good enough time keeping their current jobs - and thus, do not have as great of a need for job-hunting-related workshops.
And lastly, part-time students love socializing and networking - they just need the right opportunity, environment, and venue.
And thus, with the help of many friends in (or graduated from) the part-time MBA program, we came up with the idea of The Part-Timer. Which aims to be the single source of relevant and concise information for part-time MBA students.
The goals:
- To focus on events that cater to our jam-packed schedules.
- To provide career-building events, workshops, and opportunities that part-time students want to attend.
- To provide a means for part-time students to get to know their peers.
- To ultimately add value to our part-time MBA experience.
One Ring to Rule Them All
"So, are you married or like a huge LOTR fan?"
Neither.
But that's perhaps one of the most common questions I get when I meet someone for the first time because of the gold ring I wear around my neck. I typically give a half-ass explanation as to why I am wearing the golden donut: I'm pretty sure most strangers wouldn't be REALLY interested (nor have the time) to understand why I am wearing Frodo's ring.
A New Home
It seems I keep repeating myself...
... almost every time I write, I begin with: "so much has happened this year" ... and each time I feel justified in saying so. Perhaps, that's just a sign that I should be out experiencing all that is happening as opposed to writing about it. And so, here I find myself again, deja vu owns me. Welcome to my new home (once again), and I look forward to blah-ing all over this site for your (but mostly my) pleasure.
It's probably against good conventional wisdom to put up all this information about myself - but I'm far from conventional and have never had any problems with my wisdom teeth.
While we're at it, here's a photo of my new home. Cheers
