Reading like it's going out of style
The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can't read them.
~ Mark Twain

Lately, I've found that I have been doing so much required reading that I have totally given up on one of my favorite pass times: reading (for fun). And so, when I went to Cuba this past December I decided that I will bring 4 books with me: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, Good to Great, and The 8 Traits Successful People Have in Common.
And I have to say, it was so relaxing to have a whole week to do nothing but read on the ocean shore (with litres of Mojito). By the end of the first evening, I had finished Steig Larson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and by the fifth day, I had finished all four books - over 2,000 pages total! I had to actually borrow a book from a lovely friend I had met at the resort!
And it was then that I had once again re-discovered (yes, I've re-discovered this many times in my life) that I really need to read for pleasure - regularly. There are just way too many timeless classics, epic fantasies, and great works for a single lifetime - and it is imperative for me to indulge in this guilty pleasure as often as possible.
And so, I have decided that I will read three to four books at a time, mixing in literary masterpieces with contemporary fiction and everything in between. I will re-read all of my favorites (including The Little Prince, Man of La Mancha, Songs of Innocence, The Lord of the Rings, 1984, On the Genealogy of Morals, etc.) but also pick up all of the best sellers of all time.
So, I want to try some new books. So answer this:
If you were stuck on an island with one book, which would it be (and not a book about how to get off an island)?
Mine would either be the Bible (because I have just always wanted to read the whole thing) or The Little Prince (because it's just lovely).
"Tell me what you read and I'll tell you who you are" is true enough, but I'd know you better if you told me what you reread.
